In early 2011 the board reviewed our vision, missions and core values. As a
result, core changes to the Teach Peace Foundation were approved on August 30,
2011. The
changes resulted from our commitment to always be transparent and looking at the
reason people were supporting our work. We learned
that over the last several years we had become an organization with 100% of the
people volunteering time who were Christians and almost the same percentage of
people who were donating money. As a result we aligned our vision, missions and
core values to align with the reason people were volunteering their time. To be transparent to our 3,305 members, we
needed to share this information so that people could make decisions based on
what Teach Peace is in 2011 instead of what Teach Peace was in 2010.Click here to access our 2012 Success Plan.
Vision
Make the root reasons for material and spiritual poverty visible to save souls.
Mission
Deliver life-changing education and acts of kindness helping
young people become leaders. Another way of saying our vision and mission,
"to reach peace, we teach peace."
Core values
1. Christ-centered
- Jesus is the prince
of peace and foundation of all knowledge. The Holy Spirit guides us to
be vigilant Christians. "For no one can lay any foundation other than the one
that has been laid; that foundation is Jesus Christ." I Corinthians 3:11
Our
work may seem impossible at times but
Mark 10:27 reminds us "And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are
possible."
2.
Make darkness visible - Faith is strengthened when we stay true to God. If we do not
speak out against dark actions, unopposed forces of evil will deceive more
souls. "Behold, I send you
out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless
as doves." Matthew 10:16
3. Deliver acts of
kindness - Love is caring in
action. "He who does not love does not know God, for God is love." 1 John 4:8 If a person does
not want to receive education we offer, we teach
not with words but with acts of kindness. St. Francis of Assisi taught this when he instructed
people to serve people who were not open to Christian messages.
4. Be peacemakers - Recognize the good
from violence is temporary but the evil from violence is permanent. "Blessed are
the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God." Matthew 5:9

Our work can be summed up with Jesus's
message, love your enemy. "But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them
that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which
despitefully use you, and persecute you;" Matthew 5:44.
