We will be one of the top ten providers of peaceful leadership education in the United States by 2016.
Mission Provide education to address the greatest threats facing humanity. We work to reach peace by teaching peace.
Mission Implementation We help people acquire sufficient background for their role as citizens of a democracy. We help transform the peace movement from a movement of pieces into a cohesive force for non-violent change. We promote transparency, democratic processes, and addressing the issues that are often considered by schools and other organizations to be to controversial.
Guiding Principles Teach Peace is a source of hope and inspiration that a more peaceful world is possible in which: - freedom from fear is advanced by safeguarding humanity and the planet (e.g, addressing the threats of nuclear weapons, global warming, and imperialism). - freedom of opportunity exists with access to food, education, and health care for everyone. - free speech and freedom of religion are everyone’s human right. - conflicts are settled justly without violence and preemptive war is illegal.
What We Are Not - Afraid. - Partisan. - Anti-democratic. - Anti-spiritual. - Anti-anyone (e.g., anti-American, anti-Arab, etc.). - An organization that values life outside our country differently than life inside our country. - Unilateralist (e.g., we support the UN and the International Criminal Court). - Supportive of burdening future generations (e.g., nuclear waste or programs that pass on financial burdens to young people). - An organization of people that need to agree on everything in order to agree that we need to be free from endless wars.
