September 1, 2007 1- 3:00 PM Monthly Meeting Notes

 

The meeting started with informal introductions. Mary Wind officially welcomed people attending in person and via the phone. She reviewed the agenda.

 

The following Teach Peace recent accomplishments were discussed.

           1. Media Access Teach Peace television show.

           2. Six month calendar for Kennedy High Leaders Club (kickoff for September 5, 2007)

           On a related note, Davis High School first meeting is October 10, 2007.

           3. Upgraded communications with push video education and reminders.

           4. Spiritual Life Center Peace Teacher training workshop.

           5. International Rose Garden relationship.

           6. A Force More Powerful and Bringing Down A Dictator videos for high school programs.

           7. Supporting a September 6 multimedia presentation called Climate Change, Despair and Empowerment.

           8. Helped promote the September 7 Peoples Peace Rally for the west steps at the Sacramento state capitol.

           9. Provided support for the Sacramento Peace Pyramid.

          10. Continuing the relationship with the producers of Voices of Patriots.

          11. New Hiroshima educational program.

          12. Dinner date of 9/21 for 2008 selected.

          13. Scripts for approaching businesses for support and draft plan for 2008.

          14. New Teach Peace license plates.

          15. New Teach Peace store for educational materials and donations.

          16. New Dream Changer coloring book success stories.

          17. Mary Wind presentation at the August Hiroshima and Nagasaki Peace event.

          18. Support for Peace and Justice Network in Stockton.

       

The upcoming October 21 Evening of Peace dinner was discussed. Attendees were asked to approach businesses and ask them to show promotional materials. People also signed up to help sell dinner tickets. A master list is being maintained to track tickets that are activated.

 

Mary Wind reviewed the final list of award winners for 2007.

  • Faith Moran, Lifetime Peacemaker Award

  • Bill Durston, Lightning Rod of Courage

  • Jeanie Keltner, Distinguished Peace Leadership

  • Debbie Davis, Peace Media Leadership

  • Glenda Marsh, Peace Organizing Leadership

  • Bruce Giudici, Peace Excellence Award

  • Ray Tater, Peace Theater Award

  • Natalie Wormli, Peacemaker Award

In addition to Teach Peace volunteers, three groups of people we be recognized at the dinner.

 

Luminaries for Peace - Sofia Cortopassi, Julia Cortopassi, Elisa Espinoza, Jessica Weidenfeld and Marlene Sisemore.

Walk for Peace - Jeremy McLaughlin and team.

Voices of Patriots - Valerie Mih and Don Richards.

 

Dave Dionisi provided an update on new Teach Peace training materials and facilitated a discussion of where we have been and where we are going. The overall response was people like what has been accomplished and are excited about what where we are going. One person who participated by phone subsequently wrote, "We attended the meeting/conference call on Saturday.  It was very positive and left us feeling more empowered."

 

The film, Hope, was shown and received a very positive response. The meeting ended with Mary wishing everyone a wonderful week.

 

An optional 3:30 Train-the-trainer session was conducted by Dave Dionisi and this session ended at 6 pm.
