Previous Teach Peace Events & Meetings (All times are Pacific Standard Times)

2012

March 27, 2012 - Quarterly update 4 - 5:30 pm "green" meeting. Click here for the meeting minutes.

2011

  • March 3, 2011 - A 6- 7:30 pm (PST) 2012 vision discussion.

We explored ways to increase the impact of our efforts and further refined core values. The goal is to have the new vision and supporting values completed in the August timeframe and ready for final publication between September and November.

  • March 29, 2011 - Our 7- 8:30 pm "green" monthly meeting.

    1. Discussed Teach Peace educational efforts on the Japan nuclear disaster (e.g., the Peace Moment at http://www.teachpeace.com/teachpeacemoment10.htm and the newsletter at http://www.teachpeace.com/newsletterapr11.htm#Update). We have received positive feedback for our effort giving people advance notice to take precautionary measures such as buy potassium iodide, which is a good disaster preparation action independent of the disaster in Japan, before it was no longer available. - 10 minutes

    2. Discussed the new war with Libya at Britain's defense minister suggested could last 30 years or more. Some Teach Peace members were very upset by our position to oppose bombing Libya (see http://www.teachpeace.com/newsletterapr11.htm). The successful media propaganda that this new war was saving lives no doubt prompted this negative reaction. Comments directly about Obama being "pro-war" do not go over well and we should discuss this as my perspective is this is part of our mission to speak truth to power. - 10 minutes

    3. Discussed services delivered in March and $2,350 going to fund Model Village services. At the bottom of this email are the details on what we are funding. - 5 minutes

    4. Continued discussion on Vision for 2012. Current thinking is to have two or three brands (one for Special Ambassadors/acts of kindness and www.specialambassadors.org and one for education. This idea would change the focus from Teach Peace, which would still exist, to the "products" people are interested in supporting. Some people could choose both and www.teachpeacefoundation.org would be their internet address for us. In summary, there would be one educational non-profit organization and three Internet sites (which is manageable but very different than what we are doing now).

We have been asked to see if we can bring closure faster and communicate changes to members sooner. We should discuss this but from my perspective, we need time to figure things out. We are looking to doing market research in the August to September timeframe.

The current pace of activities will position us well for the 2012 Success Plan and we remain on track for delivering the 2011 Success Plan. - 15 minutes

    5. June 19 Teach Peace Seattle University trip to Liberia. Carmen has done a great job leading this effort. She has over $18,000 raised. Everything is on track for a very successful peace trip. - 5 minutes

  • April 26, 2011 - Our 7- 8:30 pm "green" monthly meeting.

    Agenda

    1. Recent deliverables include 70 scholarships to Liberia Mission students, emergency food aid, and Nuclear Disaster Teach Peace Moment. The newsletter views for April exceed 11,000 and our opposition to Obama starting a war with Libya is receiving wide acceptance (plus further confirmation that the rebel aircraft at the start of the Libya violence was a false flag operation to justify the start of the new war).

    2. Model Village funding delivered and project update.

    3. Donation of several thousand of dollars of pens and pencils for the Seattle University June trip.

    4. New website systems based on the Microsoft Expressions platform are being created plus new code is being developed to make sponsorship of Special Ambassador children a more connected experience.

    5. Google announced the end of Google videos creating a disruption in our ability to educate people with documentaries.

    6. Vision discussion with an emphasis on the core values. The open issue "do we combine political and controversial with serving the poor" continues to be discussed. We need a realistic assessment of people who are willing to volunteer not just as advisors but as actual workers. We should consider positioning Teach Peace to potentially join forces with Liberia Mission for services delivered in Liberia.

Click here for a possible new 2012 vision and core values.

    7. Financial outlook for the 2012-2014 economy is likely continued loss of jobs and negative job growth (except for the war portion of the economy with the expanding Libya war). This means donations to non-profits, especially non-profits helping the poor and promoting peace, are in greater need but shorter supply. Many boards are requiring board members to be directly involved in raising funds. Should we establish a fund raising requirement?

  • May 31, 2011 - Our 7- 8:30 pm "green" monthly meeting.

    Agenda

    1. Nuclear Disaster Update. An overview on the situation and education we are offering delivering.

    2. Update on education efforts to promote nonviolence and end current wars including a discussion on why celebrating murder is wrong.

    3. Review of trip details for the Seattle University June trip (e.g., we have pens/pencils to ship, seeds to deliver, and maybe a soccer tournament to arrange).

    4. Evening of Peace Awards

Damon Vrabel, Sr. Sponsa, Rodney Robinson, Winnie Detwiler, Leuren Moret, Bernardine Ileto & Brian Chiang, Fr. Oscar and Jim Harber.

The three people in bold are expected to attend. The others will have certificates mailed. We have three open award spots that can be filled between now and August 1st.

    5. Board member update

    7. Vision discussion to refine core values and services. The open issue "do we continue to combine controversial information with serving the poor" continues to be discussed. The answer now appears to continue to do this but do it in a way that is more effective with four products. Three of the four products could be presented in government schools because of their secular dimensions. They are:

     a. Our interfaith program called an Evening of Peace that recognizes special contributions people make for social justice. Award winners, like in the past 6 years, may come from any background or religion. This event is designed to recognize courageous excellence, motivate others to become peacemakers, and promote collaboration among people with different beliefs.

    b. Continuation of the Special Ambassador program with no changes. This program delivers services to disabled children regardless of their tribe or religion. The services are determined by the need of the disabled child and our resources.

    c. Acts of kindness and leadership education appropriate for presentation in government schools similar to what has been delivered in public schools in the past (e.g., the Leaders and Green Dignity programs).

    d. A product specifically targeted for a Christian audience that would educate people about the root causes of violence, why loving Muslims, Jews and others being persecuted is essential and efforts to spiritually corrupt children.

Click here for a possible new 2012 vision and core values.

  • August 30, 2011 - Our 7- 8:30 pm board meeting open to the public.
