Name & Logo Origin

Where does the name Teach Peace Foundation come from?

In a sentence, we teach peace. The foundation part of the organization name is because we recognize the work we do will always be needed.

The longer answer is Dave Dionisi, Mary Wind and approximately 50 other people from many faiths and backgrounds came together to do something constructive to end the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.  The early focus was influenced by Franklin Roosevelt's Four Freedoms speech in 1941 which explained how to achieve freedom from war. Our vision builds on this speech for a world free from war made possible by freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom from want, and freedom from fear through education. While we are critical of many of FDR's decisions and involvement in secret societies, the Four Freedoms speech did influence us to create what is now the Teach Peace Foundation.

What does the Teach Peace Foundation logo symbolize?

The logo in the upper left of this page shows people from around the world holding hands in friendship. In the center of the logo are the hands of children. The playful hand paint images with interwoven fingers symbolize teamwork. We teach peace to people of all ages and the logo represents this full lifecycle dimension of our work. Joy is a key part of why we teach peace and the logo colors were selected to communicate an upbeat and fun feeling. Understanding the history of the peace symbol can help you understand why our logo is different. Understanding the vertical line and two downward sloping lines peace symbol is helpful to understanding why for some audiences it communicates the opposite of love of and service to humanity.

We are careful not to duplicate existing efforts of other organizations.

Teach Peace:

  • offers a caring way to engage the general public in discussion.

  • uniquely educates on the connection between monetary policies, the Federal Reserve, and militarism.

  • fosters collaboration among existing peace groups locally, nationally and internationally.

  • serves as a lightning rod of courage for other people to stand up for justice.

  • empowers local communities and unites peace pieces into a cohesive force teaching peace.

What is the Certified Peace TeacherTM?

The Teach Peace Foundation is the trademark authority for the Certified Peace TeacherTM or CPTTM designation. CPTTM can be earned by successfully leading a Teach Peace Program for one year.
