Depleted Uranium 101 - A Key Reason why over 518,000 Gulf War veterans are receiving disability payments & why veterans need our help

The overwhelming evidence that depleted uranium is killing people long after the fighting has ended has prompted the U.S. government in 2010 to begin seek alternatives. Reports, such as the January 22, 1010 "Iraq littered with high levels of nuclear and dioxin contamination" are now flowing on a regular basis.

As background for the seriousness of depleted uranium, many places such as Gaza and Iraq are polluted with this nuclear waste product that has a half-life of 4.5 billion years. The damage to children is severe and shown in the January 2, 2010 video below. The damage to soldiers is also severe and Reuters reported on September 25, 2007, that over 175,000 American 1991 Gulf War soldiers are still seriously sick.  For the Physicians for Social Responsibility Depleted Uranium report, click here.

To start learning about depleted uranium, we recommend viewing the US Army Depleted Uranium Hazards Training video below, the Beyond Treason documentary, and reading the Physicians for Social Responsibility report.

A January 2, 2010 Depleted Uranium broadcast: Iraq Cancer Fears provides an update on the deaths resulting from DU exposure in Iraq.

We also recommend viewing the Army's Hazards of Depleted Uranium Contamination Training and the documentary The Doctor, the Depleted Uranium, and the Dying Children.

Teach Peace supports the International Coalition to Ban Uranium Weapons (ICBUW) campaign by making available the www.bandepleteduranium.com address. This is an example of our best practice to collaborate and help other organizations to advance the attainment of an objective, in this case banning depleted uranium weapons. ICBUW is working to ban the use of uranium in all conventional weapons and weapon systems and for monitoring, health care, compensation and environmental remediation for communities affected by their use. ICBUW represents more than 120 NGOs worldwide and seeks to do for uranium weapons what the International Coalition to Ban Landmines and Cluster Munitions Coalition did for those types of weapons, in essence to develop a uranium weapons treaty that would prohibit the use of uranium in all conventional, i.e. non-nuclear, weapons.
