Cost considerations in delivering a chicken or goat

Per Animal

1. Online credit card processing (system and gateway fees) = 3% or 75 cents for chickens.

2. Staff time to input donation into ACT and send thank you = 10 minutes or $2.

3. Thank you letter, ink for letter and stamp = 65 cents.

4. Gift card production cost is 75 cents per card.

5. Postage for the gift card to be send is 44 cents.

Obtaining the funds and record keeping per animal = $4.59

Training and Oversight Including Financial Reporting

1. Average staff training, oversight and financial reporting per gift estimate = $7*.

2. Cost of replacement animals noted as necessary = $1 for chickens and $5 for goats.

*Staff Time (a function of the number of animals and based on assumption of 1,000 chickens and 100 goats)

1. Ongoing management by Howard in Liberia (training, arranging purchases, delivering animals, replacing animals, and reporting) = $2,400 per year.

2. Accounting time to review reports and receipts = 6 hours or $300 per year.

3. Adding donations and inputting in the IRS reporting = 3 hours or $150 per year.

4. Adding donations and inputting in the Cal State reporting = 2 hours or $100 per year.

5. Creating of online content and ordering = 10 hours or $500 per year.

6. Creation of advertising = 4 hours or $200 per year.

7. Advertising or promotion = $2,000 per year.

8. Phone support for program (donor questions, assisting Howard, etc.) = 6 hours or $300 per year.

9. Year end tax donation letters are sent to each donor.

10. Staff time to write the reports of our success to share with other non-government and government organizations = 5 hours or $250 per year.

Total all staff time is $6,200 per year.

The $25 per chicken and $120 per goat enables us to deliver as advertised. Our goal is to become so efficient that we can deliver for less than $25 and the remaining money would enable us to cover operating costs for other peace programs that have not been fully funded.
